SUPER RARE S&W Prewar .357 Magnum Non-Registered - One of 1,142
Description:
For sale is this SUPER RARE S&W Prewar .357 Magnum Non-Registered
There were approximately 5,500 Registered Magnums manufactured, but only 1,142 of these “Non-Registered” ones according to Blue Book were made between 1938 - 1941. These guns did not have a separate Registration number stamped in the yoke cut, but were serial numbered without the Prefix S of the later Pre 27’s. This one features a beautiful humpback hammer, and well executed custom stocks, and a modified front sight. The bore is very good, the action crisp and markings are sharp. The Jink’s Factory Letter is included showing this one to have been shipped in 1940 to Montana.
According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, these guns” were more likely to be heavily used than the Registereds”, and that is the case with this example. It exhibits wear and use. The most noticeable is a nick along the sight rail about 2/3rds down on the left, and an impression in the trigger guard. The original factory finish has areas of oxidation.
