#4825 Whitneyville Armory Model 1879 OBFMCB,mfg c1884
Description: #4825 Whitneyville Armory (AKA Whitney-Kennedy-Tiesing) Model 1879 OBFMCB, lever action rifle, 44WCF with a Fine bore (about an 8 to 8+ on a scale of 10) and smooth action. Made between 1879 and 1886, this rifle has the later loop style lever with the very long throw, so probably 1884-5 manufacture. It has fine smooth metal with very faint traces of thin blue, but basically a smooth grey-brown patina and fine markings. The wood is VG/VG+, the rear sight is a beautiful FULL buckhorn with a slightly scalloped base and a Rocky Mountain style front. The rear sight would be at LEAST $250-300 or more if purchased at a gun show from a sights dealer, as it is really a GREAT sight! This is a very nice and pretty scarce rifle and it was a personal favorite of the late owner who shot it competitively in Cowboy Action shoots with significant successes. Being produced by using patents from several significant major gun inventors of the mid-1800s, Whitneys probably would have been real competitors to Winchester had it not been for the very long lever throw to cycle the action. A shooter would probably have needed the arms of an orangutang to cycle this gun quickly! VG++ $2875 SOLD Antique: Yes |
