Antique 1889 Marlin. 44-40. Octagon Barrel Near Mint Bright Bore Lots Of Blue
Description: SOLD..Antique 1889 Marlin. Miny bore. 44-40. Here is a way above average antique 1889 Marlin. It is in the very sought after 44-40 caliber. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. S/N 38251 andf made in 1890. The bore is near mint. Bright and shiny with NO roughness or frosting. It shines like a miror. Mechanics are excellent in feeding, firing and ejecting but the ejection is a little weak as all of these 89 marlins are. It still kicks the case out of the receiver but these do not eject as strong as the Winchesters. Hammer nothces are perfect and positive. Not broken or worn like most all of these are. Two very bad designs on these 89's are the ejectors and bad hardening by Marlin on the hammer notches and trigger sears. I have repaired many of these over the years.Has the original rocky mountain front sight and the long rear sight with the "legs" on bottom and even has the correct "fish hook" elevator. All the markings are excellent and sharp. The metal is excellent with the barrel having about 50% bright but slightly thinning blue. The bottoms and sides of the barrel flats retain most all the deep blueing and thinning out on the upper top flats and very top flat of the barrel. {see photos}.. The receiver shows very good traces on the sides and a little around the hammer area. This is a VERY nice little Marlin. NO pitting on the gun at all. The balance where the blue is gone is a very nice and smooth medium brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with at all. All the screws are good but the two forearm cap screws show burring. These could be replaced if so desired but I am not messing with them. The wood is excellent as well. The forearm has no cracks or splits and shows most all the original varnish. Fits tight and full to the metal and shows some very minor and honest handling dings and scratches. The butt stock is excellent as well with no splits or cracks and fits tight and full with some minor dings and scratches. NO issues with the wood on this gun at all.!!! Very nice. The butt plate even has good traces of case colors remaining in good light. This one of the best 89's I have ever had for sale with nice blue remaining, minty bright bore, octagon barrel and in the great 44-40 caliber that every one wants. Call 765-728-8049 fast because this one will not last long.!!! No it is not cheap but well worth more than I am asking. $50 insured shipping. Will be list many more antique rifles soon. Check my listing often. SOLD Antique: Yes |
