Antique 1889 Marlin. Outstanding 95% Barrel Blue!!! Near Mint Bore!!! 38-40 Octagon Barrel.
Description: SOLD....Antique 1889 Marlin. Outstanding 95% barrel blue. Near mint bore. Here is a fantastic 1889 Marlin. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel . It is in the excellent shooting 38-40 caliber.. S/N is 46072 and made in 1891 3rd year production..The barrel has 95% bright deep blue remaining. Has just thinned out on the edges and that is it. The receiver still retains a very good amount of blue also. About 30% on the sides and the top as you can see in the photos. Just a wonderful looking 89!!! The bore is near mint. Bright and shiny with strong rifling all the way through. Just a tad bit of very minor roughness in the groves in a couple small spots that will probably clean out with some shooting and cleaning. I would have to say on a scale from 1to 10 it is a 9 1/2 !!! VERY hard to find bores this nice in antique rifles.. I have test fired this gun and it shoots like a target rifle. It feeds, fires and ejects flawlessly. The markings are all excellent as well. Has the original rocky mountain style front sight and the rear sight is the original with the small "legs" at the bottom of the buckhorn. This gun is all original and never messed with or cleaned on. NO pitting anywhere on the gun. The upper tang screw is a little burred as is one of the receiver screws but all are very serviceable. The wood is near excellent also. Still shows great color and not all oil soaked as many you will find. The forearm still has 85% original varnish with NO splits, cracks or repairs. Just a couple minor honest dings and scratches. Still fits tight and prowd to the metal. Never sanded on or messed with. The butt stock is excellent as well. NO cracks or splits but shows two very small chips at the lower tang but nothing that detracts from this excellent Marlin. Still shows traces of original varnish here and there along with a few honest dings and scratches. Still fits tight and prowd to the metal and never sanded on or messed with. I do not come across these 89's very often in this excellent condition. I had one a couple months back that was in identical condition as this one. It sold in two days for $2000. I should have kept it. If this one does not sell in a reasonable amount of time I won't let this one get away. I still have a little room in the safe !!!! Here is a fantastic ole 89 that you do not see every day. WAY above average gun here. The best caliber for shooting and does it ever shoot !!! $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. I can send more photos of any area you may want to see. 12 photos is all I can list and just is not enough to show off this great looking antique rifle. SOLD Antique: Yes |
