Antique Sharps Civil War 1859 Carbine
Description: Antique Sharps New Model 1859 Civil War Carbine Post-Civil War Cartridge Conversion to 50-70 Here we present an antique Sharps New Model Carbine, made during the American Civil War and converted to fire a metallic cartridge circa 1867. The U.S. military contracted the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Co. to make the alterations. The converted new models numbered about 30,000. They saw significant use after the war, especially on the Western Frontier. From hunting buffalo to battles between European Americans and Native Americans, the Sharps made a name for itself as a rugged, powerful and accurate long arm for the rest of the 19th century. This specimen is in overall fine condition. The stock shows some handling, but really is solid and beautiful. The metal parts are all matching in patina. The markings are crisp. The bore is in very good condition. This would be a dream to shoot if you are a reloader. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches in length. Caliber: 50-70 Govt (50-70-450) Bore is in good condition. The firing mechanism is excellent. Overall condition as seen in photos. From hunting buffalo to battles between European Americans and Native Americans, the Sharps made a name for itself as a rugged, powerful and accurate long arm for the rest of the 19th century.
