Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle
Description: Antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle With Nice Cartouches & Fantastic Bore Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle, made circa 1884 by Springfield Armory. Amazingly, despite the adoption of the ill-fated Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese Bolt Action Magazine Rifle, new models of trapdoor rifles continued to be produced and used all the way through the mid-1890s, until finally, the Krag-Jorgensen was adopted. The U.S. continued to see unrest and conflict with the displaced Native Americans during this time, including the Wounded Knee Massacre on December 29th, 1890. Trapdoors continued to see use all the way through the Spanish American War. This specimen is one of the early production of the Model 1884, featuring a “U.S./MODEL/1873” marked breech, as Ordnance was trying to use up remaining part stock. The lock is marked “Eagle/U.S./Springfield”. The left side of the barrel bears the “V/P/Eagle head” proof marks. The left side of the stock bears the inspector cartouche of Samuel W. Porter. Behind the trigger guard tang is the “P” marking. This specimen is in very good condition. The iron parts are dark with age and markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is mostly smooth, with a little roughness near the front barrel band. The bore is excellent. The action is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32 5/8 inches in length. Caliber: 45-70 Govt (45-70-500) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #10435 SOLD Antique: Yes |
