SUPER RARE MARLIN 1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE, MADE 1897
Description: UNQUESTIONABLY ONE OF THE MOST DESIRABLE, RARE AND ELUSIVE MARLINS! 1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE, MADE 1897, only about 200 of these were manufactured and in 30 years I've only seen a small handful come up for sale! This one is an unmessed with and uncleaned example in .38-56 caliber (at this point I always point out that the .38-56 was a very potent caliber based on the .45-70 case simple necked to .38 caliber and held a full 56 grains of black powder where as the more common .38-55 was simply a straight wall .30-30 case that held 42 - 45 grains of powder and was not in the same class as the bigger .38-56), uncleaned barrel and magazine are a deep very aged blue/brown, exc. barrel markings and original carbine rear sight with slide intact, receiver is aged mottled dark with maybe a trace of case color at best in the most protected areas, nice blue on the loading gate, very fine dark walnut butt stock (the dark streaks on the surface of the wood are from black powder fouling that ran down the stock on cleaning!), also fine dark forend with only the usual dry age crack running back from the tip of the forend bottom to the barrel retaining band- minor and to be expected, very tight wood to metal fit, this carbine has the "saddle ring" others have sling swivels instead (they came both ways), 22" barrel, correct carbine butt plate, slightly dark but excellent bore, simply a great untouched example of a true Marlin rarity almost never seen much less offered for sale, most of the best Marlin collections lack one of these SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Marlin Model: MARLIN 1895 SADDLE RING CARBINE Serial Number: 152XXX Caliber Info: .38-56 Condition: fine Barrels: 22 |
