“YEOMANS” Marked EAST INDIA CO. Flintlock Musket
Description: “YEOMANS” Marked EAST INDIA CO. Flintlock Musket East India Co. Marked 1806 Dated Afghan Musket Here we present an antique Afghan Jezail Flintlock Musket, made circa 1810. The original lock is dated 1806 and was made in England by James Yeomans. The lock bears the emblem of the Honorable East India Company with a “Heart/EIC”. This lock would have come from a captured British musket and placed on a musket of more native design. This was a military weapon, but extremely highly decorated. This one has a percussion ignition system, but the type originated with flintlocks salvaged from British Brown Besses in the Anglo-Afghan war. Each one was hand-made. The extreme length of the barrel made them very accurate at long ranges, such that the Afghan’s sniping from heights and cover was devastating to the British, as they were unable to reach back. Amazingly, some were even used by the Mujahideen in the resistance against the Soviet Union when they invaded Afghanistan. The curved club stock is speculated as being a way to carry and fire the weapon from the back of a moving horse or camel. The stock on this piece is gorgeously ornate and inlaid with mother of pearl. The extremely long 46-3/8 inch barrel made loading the weapon from the back of a beast relatively easy as the butt would be set on the ground. The overall condition is fair. The metal finish has a dark patina. The markings are legible. The stock shows lots of hard use but is nevertheless still intact. The bore is smooth with a thick layer of dust. The action on this musket is nonfunctioning. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 46-3/8 inches. Caliber: .58 Overall condition as seen in photos.
