FRENCH Antique MAUBEUGE Model 1777 Flint Musket
Description: FRENCH Antique MAUBEUGE Model 1777 Flint Musket American REVOLUTIONARY WAR Flintlock Weapon Here we present an antique French Model 1777 Flintlock Musket, made circa 1777 at the arsenal at Maubeuge in France. The 1777, which was and is also known as the “Charleville”, was an updated version of a line of French military muskets going back to 1717. It came by that nickname during the American Revolutionary War, when this line of French flintlocks were imported for use by the rebel colonists. The French that came across and fought on American soil also used these muskets. In addition, the “Charleville” would also go on to fight in other world-changing conflicts, like the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolution. The musket was very successful, prompting copies from other nations, both licensed and unlicensed. In fact, like the extremely rare North & Cheney US Model 1799 Flintlock Pistol was based on the French Model 1777 Flintlock Pistol, so too was the US Model 1795 Flintlock Musket based on the French design. There is a ton of history in this gun. Lock is marked as made at “Maubeuge”. The stock is imprinted with a small military acceptance mark on the right side of the stock. The left side of the butt stock is marked with a large circle with “PLD” inside. Under that is the number “211”. Small inspector marks can be found throughout. The underside of the barrel is marked “E/272”, as is the breech plug. There are other assembly marks throughout. Overall condition is good. The metal is dark and markings in the metal are clear. The stock is solid, with a graft under the rear barrel band. Markings are mostly clear, though it has been lightly sanded. The bore is smooth and untouched, just dusty. The action is still strong, even after a couple hundred years. Here is a great opportunity to own a true piece of French, American and world history. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 38-1/8 inches in length. Caliber: .69 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #10515 SOLD Antique: Yes |
