BALLARD RIFLE AND CARTRIDGE .40-65 WINCHESTER
Description: PRICE REDUCED AGAIN! Once dubbed “America’s Sweetheart”, the Ballard single-shot rifle is an iconic figure that is still held in highest esteem by many of the world's best shooters. The Ballard action is the brainchild of C.H. Ballard and was patented in 1861. Although initially manufactured by the firm of Ball and Williams, several other companies produced the Ballard through the ensuing years until the company of J.M. Marlin picked it up and developed it into its present and most cherished form. The Ballard action was unique among other actions of the latter half of the 1800s in that the motion of the closing breechblock effortlessly and safely cammed the cartridge into the chamber. Its center-mounted hammer with lockwork housed within the breechblock provided greatly improved lock time and virtually no disturbance of the rifle when the hammer fell, unlike the huge side-hammer Sharps rifles of the day. Here we have the modern recreation of the Ballard as produced by Ballard Rifle and Cartridge, LLC of Cody, Wyoming. These handsome rifles are true to the original Marlin Ballard design and are machined from modern 8620 billet steel. This gorgeous example of the work of Steve Garbe, Ron Long, and other extraordinary craftsmen at Ballard is the No. 4½ Mid Range Rifle which, in the mind of many, is the ideal target/hunting rifle. Chambered in .40-65 Winchester with a 32-inch octagon to round Badger barrel, this rifle wears outstanding upgraded walnut stocks in which the forearm is a perfect match to the buttstock. Weighing in at 10 3/4 pounds, it also features the full loop lever, double-set triggers, hard rubber shotgun buttplate, and ebony tipped forearm. All in all this is a most handsome rifle to which the photos do not do justice. It is simply spectacular in the hand and provides match-winning accuracy on the range. Other than for very minor handling marks there is one spot where the tip of the toe of the buttstock was chipped, but professionally repaired to virtually invisible condition as verified in the photos. Included with this fine rifle is a spirit-level front sight and midrange vernier tang sight and custom-machined and casehardened scope bases which will accomodate both Unertl and posi-mount rings. Also included are 20 precision lathe-turned, match-grade cartridge cases and a very nice Ballard Rifle and Cartridge LLC catalog from 2000. Please feel free to call with any questions or request for close up photos. The price does not include shipping and insurance to your FFL dealer. SOLD |
