Olympian Grade Browning High Power Medium Game Rifle - Cal. 243 - Scope and Case
Description: BROWNING OLYMPIAN GRADE HIGH POWER MEDIUM GAME RIFLE
FACTORY ENGRAVED MOUNT / RINGS w/ BROWNING 3x9 SCOPE
This lisiting is for a Browning Olympian in a very desireable caliber. Originally purchased from the renowned Browning expert the late Rod Fuller (see card in case). The rifle is Serial Number 2P 15076 (1962 mfg.), Caliber .243, and the 22" Featherweight round bbl is marked Browning Arms Company on left with caliber, SN, and 'Made in Belgium' on right side.
There are 2" triangles of scrolled acanthus engraving at sides of breech ends. Coin finished small ring Mauser action has typical gold-plated trigger. Action is engraved with well cut, shaded, acanthus scroll, as background to game scenes appropriate to this caliber; a running pronghorn on the left side of the receiver ring (signed by Vandersmissen), a grazing mule deer is on the right receiver ring (signed by Vandermissen). Floorplate depicts a mountain lion crouching from a tree (signed by Vandermissen), and the head of a mountain goat is engraved on the trigger guard bow (unsigned). All engraving is pristene with no scratches or dings. Not bad for a 55 year old firearm !
Very fine figured gloss finished walnut with rosewood capped pistol grip stock and original Browning compostition butt plate. Stock freatures a Monte Carlo comb with swept right hand cheekpiece and rosewood forend tip with white line spacer. Flared rosewood grip cap with white line spacer has gold diamond inset (not monogrammed) on bottom. Closely spaced checkering at grip and forend is flanked by relief carved scrolling acanthus with stipple shaded background. Sling studs are in the forend and on toe line (and appear unused). Rifle is mounted with a Browning 3x9 scope with duplex reticle. The black scope rings and mount are tastefully engraved in acanthus style and complement the coin finish. A narrow line gold of plating enhances and outlines the rings and mount.
Weight with scope: 8lbs 6oz with scope. LOP: 13 5/8" Trigger pull is factory specified 3-3.5 lbs. Browning Hartmann rifle case is lined with off-white faun faux fur with typical signs of use and includes factory owners instruction manual.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine and appears unfired with minimal (if any) handling marks with checkering and engraving bright and unmarked. A fine example of the 'triple signed' Belgium engraved rifles of the early 60's. Bolt shows minimal/slight signs of operation, bore is excellent and bright with rifle being mechanically crisp. Scope is clear and fully operational and has minimal surface scratches and no chips in finish. This is a 'pre-Salt' era manufactured rifle and accordingly has not been tested for salt.
PROVENANCE: Current owner purchased the rifle directly from the late renowned Browning expert and collector Rod Fuller of Imperial, Nebraska.
SAFETY NOTICE: Buyer is solely responsible for determining that a pre-owned firearms is safe to shoot. The firearms offered has been given a visual inspection for collection purpose only.
