Antique COLT LIGHTING Rifle Small Frame 22 Rimfire
Description: Antique COLT LIGHTING Rifle Small Frame 22 Rimfire With Tang Mounted Peep Sight, Very Nice Condition Here we present an antique Colt Lightning Small Frame Slide Action Rifle, made in 1897, in Hartford, Connecticut. This was Colt’s entry into the pistol caliber rifle and carbine market, which was absolutely dominated by Winchester at this time. Pistol caliber rifles were instrumental in the hands of those settling the West, as they were able to carry one type of ammunition to feed both their long gun and their sidearm. It also enabled a rifle to be stoked with the maximum number of cartridges, sacrificing power for capacity, useful when outnumbered at close range. The Colt Lightning was fairly successful, but never approached the numbers that Winchester’s lever action was able to achieve. This specimen was made for small game and plinking, being chambered in .22 Rimfire Short, the original rimfire cartridge. The barrel is 24 inches long and octagonal. The magazine tube is half-length. The front sight is a fine, adjustable blade. The rear sight is two leaf that fold flat. One leaf has a deep V, while the other has a flat top with a triangle marked on it. There is also a great folding tang peep sight. The top of the barrel is marked “.22 Cal.” and “COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED MAY 29 SEPT 18.83 MAY 26.85 JUNE 15.86 FEB 22.87”. The left side of the receiver, as well as the butt plate are marked with the Rampant Colt. This specimen is in fine condition. About 40% of the original bluing remains. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is solid and smooth. The bore has good rifling. The action is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 24 inches in length. Caliber: .22 Rimfire Short Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #10437 SOLD Antique: Yes |
