Springfield Armory Iwo Jima M1 Garand Commemorative
Description:
This is a Springfield Armory M1 Garand manufactured in December 1944 and put into new engraved wood for this commemorative set. This is not the imitation M1 concocted some years ago by the commercial firm in Illinois, unrelated to the real United States Armory in Massachusetts, this receiver and various other parts could very well have actually been at Iwo Jima. #3479867 was produced about December of 1944, and would have been in service when the battle took place a few months later. Yes, it could've been at IWO. Not to infer that it was, but at least it existed and it was actually around at the time. This is a real, specification FORGED receiver, not a postwar commercial casting. The stock is Boyd's laser-etched walnut, new. Note the rendition of Joe Rosenthal's world famous 1945 photo on the right rear butt stock. There are plenty of detailed photos that tell the story. Wartime trigger housing and bolt, see the complete photo array for details. It is a World War II receiver in commemorative livery. The gun has seen action but has not been fired by the current owner. This beautiful set comes with display case, AFH/US bayonet, sling and five clips.
