Antique Lee Enfield Carbine LEC 1 Militia Marked
Description: Serial Number #209A. This is an antique, 1898 dated carbine as acquired by Canada in 1898/1899. This example retains 95% in its original blue with clear, sharp markings and only a few minor spots of corrosion. There is one spot in the center of the bolt cover, on the right of the barrel band and on the bottom edge of the bolt handle. All matching numbers on the barrel, frame, bolt and rear sight are all matching The bore rates as very good plus with strong rifling and only the slightest corrosion. It retains its' original leather sight cover and an original Enfield built and inspected rod. The wood is all original showing normal issue and usage marks. The butt disk is marked 8 P.L.H #251. The disk marking is for the 8th (Militia District) New Brunswick, Princess Louise's Hussars. This non-permanent cavalry unit was based in Suzzex New Brunswick. The butt shows the M&D (Militia & Defense) mark on the right side. In addition this example bears the Canadian C broad arrow mark; indicating that it passed through Canadian sotres at some time after 1907. See ref Defending the Dominion Canadian military rifles 1855-1955. By David Edgecombe. This marking is quite scarce if no rare. This is an excellent example of the L.E.C. 1 Enfield carbine, that retains all of its' original parts and components. For further reference see pages 101 to page 118 of the aforesaid reference.
