Description: FINE CIVIL WAR PARKER FIELD & SONS ENFIELD PATTERN 1853 RIFLE MUSKET W/ BAYONET. .577 caliber 39” barrel engraved at the breech “233 HOLBORN LONDON” and with London proofs at the left breech. Lock pate engraved “PARKER FIELD & SONS”. 100% original and fine overall with oil quenched case hardened lock and grey patina barrel with some very fine salt and pepper. Barrel bands with minor blue mixed with patina. Nipple still has nearly all the blue. Brass mounts with dark unpolished umber color. Extremely nice stock with about all the original finish. Original ramrod. Perfect working order and near mint bore. Excellent original bayonet with “Parker Field & Son/233 Holborn London” maker’s etched panel on the blade and engraved floral decoration as well. Original scabbard. One of the 5 Pattern 1853 contractors to the Confederacy. Two contracts are known for 1863 for 1700 and 3800 to be delivered for 65 shillings in the first instance and no more than 70 shillings for the latter. Scarce and particularly nice example.
