Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1950/52 "GK" Rifle in .270 Winchester w/ Hensoldt 4X Scope
Description: This is a variation of the Model 1950 Mannlicher Schoenauer rifle that is marked on the chamber "Mod.1950", but has the swept back bolt handle of the 1952 Model. It is considered a transition model and commonly called the "GK" model by collectors. It was manufactured by the Steyr firm with a 24" inch barrel and is chambered in the popular .270 Winchester cartridge. It features a single trigger and iron sights, with the rear sight having a flip-up leaf for 300 yards. It has a internal rotary magazine that holds 5 rounds that is removable for cleaning. The original Walnut stock has an Ebony forend and quick detachable sling swivel studs with brass surrounds as well as a carved cheekpiece in the stock. It has been fitted with claw mounts and a vintage Hensoldt Wetzlar 4 power scope with a 3-post reticle. This rifle is in very good condition overall. The original factory gloss blue finish rates 95% with some very minor handling marks. The bore is bright and in excellent condition in this rifle. The rifling is strong with sharp lands and grooves and no pitting or erosion visible. The original stock is in very good condition as well. It has some small dents, scratches, and handling marks but nothing major, and it is free from cracks. The checkering still has a lot of life left in it and while the sharp edges have been worn down some, there is plenty of grip left in it and it's still attractive. At some point a Pachmayr recoil pad was added to this rifle, and the length of pull is 14 & 3/8ths inches to the end of the pad. Everything works on this rifle 100% like the day it left the factory. Very seldom have we had a Mannlicher Schoenauer with the original period scope still attached. This rifle does, and it is a very nice outfit. It was expertly mounted on a quick release claw style mount. The Hensoldt Wetzlar 4 power scope is mechanically perfect. The elevation and windage adjustments work perfectly as does the focus. The reticle is a 3-post arrangement with a vertical pointed center post and two horizontal posts that flank the center post. It is the same reticle that is often seen on WW2 German sniper scopes. The objective lens looks crystal clear and is free from scratches or cracks. The ocular lens (eye-piece) is free from scracthes and cracks as well, but has some very minor delamination. The view thru the scope is good and usable, but it is slightly cloudy from the ocular lens. This could be repaired easily by one of the several scope repair businesses here in the U.S. The scope locks on and off the rifle perfectly with the push of a button on the rear base. This is THE classic European hunting rifle that has been sought-after since the 1950's. They have a reputation for reliability, accuracy, and superb fit and finish. If you have been looking for a classy vintage hunting rifle that will perform in the field and have admirers wherever you take it, this is it!!
