Scarce French Model 1892 Presentation Revolver 8mm
Description: This is a wonderful and scarce variant of the French Model 1892 revolver chambered in 8mm. This example is one of the prize 1892's intended to be presented to the winners in military shooter competitions. The left grip is inletted with a silver plaque. It is marked "PRIX OFFERT PAR LE MINISTRE DE LA GUERRE" which translates to (Prize Offered by the Minister of War) Please see FRENCH SERVICE HANDGUNS 1858-2004 page 70. This reference book indicates that some of these revolvers were earmarked for Ministry of War prizes have been examined and found to have no serial number. This one is no different with the only numbers seen are a "2" on the hammer. It also discusses the only know examples are dated 1902 or 1903. This particular revolver is dated 1913. We hypothesize that due to the late date on the barrel and the fact that the plaque is NOT engraved with the recipients name, that this revolver might have been pulled from the factory and issued. The barrel is 4 5/8" with a near excellent, bright strong bore. Metal surfaces are blued and also have straw finish. Coverage is excellent; retaining about 98% coverage with a small spot of rust at the muzzle. Grips retain fine, strong checkering. These aren't offered for sale often and we've never seen one dated this late. FFL or C&R SOLD Manufacturer: French Model: 1892 Caliber Info: 8mm Gauge Info: 8mm |
