CANADIAN Antique B.S.A. Co. MKII* Snider Enfield
Description: CANADIAN Antique B.S.A. Co. MKII* Snider Enfield Converted to Carbine Format Dated “1866” Here we present an antique B.S.A. Co. MKII* Snider Enfield Carbine, made in 1866. The British military, like many militaries of the day, was in the process of updating its arsenal from single shot percussion muskets to breech-loading cartridge rifles. Rather than retire all of their existing muskets at once and choosing a completely new platform the government opted to adopt and install a breech-loading conversion. The result was still a large bore, single shot rifle, but it could be loaded much more quickly and efficiently than ramming a ball down from the front. They went on to see use throughout the world in colonies and commonwealth. This is an example of a MKII*. It was once a rifle but was converted to carbine length. It is marked “DC” inside a diamond on the left side of the stock, the mark of the Dominion of Canada. The right side is marked “R CROWN M/ENFIELD” in a circle over “1”. In front of the hammer it is marked “II*” and ‘B.S.A.Co”. On the right side of the frame it has “CROWN/V.R.” and “B.S.A.Co/1866/CROWN”. The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces and covered in a smooth, dark patina. The markings are clear and legible. The bore is clear and bright. The stock shows extensive use and remains solid. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 19-1/4 inches. Caliber: .577 Snider Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
