Springfield Rifle 1892 Krag Antique 1896 Alteration
Description: Serial #22337, .30-40 Krag, 29” barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some dark spots of freckling about midway down. This is an 1894 dated rifle that has 85-90% blue remaining on the barrel with some silvering at the crowned muzzle and a smooth, plum-brown patina on the balance. The receiver has an overall dark, pewter gray patina with some mottling, and the magazine door retains about 70-75% of the original blue fading to the same dark gray along the remainder. The bolt is still armory bright with some very light freckling mixing in (most noticeably on the handle), and the extractor still has 90-95% of the original bright, fire blue remaining. The walnut stock and handguards have some scattered small handling marks and surface blemishes throughout the armory oil finish. The ramrod channel was filled during the conversion and the 1896 dated cartouche is still crisp and clear on the left side of the wrist. The barrel band, nosecap, and trigger guard retain their original blued finish, while the buttplate has a smooth plum-brown patina with traces of blue remaining. The rifle includes an original brass muzzle cover and is in fine condition overall. This is a handsome, early Krag, that was modified to Spanish-American War specs.
