WW2 Nagoya Type 99 Rifle Early Production 2nd Series
SOLD
Description: This early production 2nd series Type 99 rifle came in directly from the veteran's family. It was accompanied by a nice Type 30 bayonet that came back with the rifle also available for purchase separately. The rifle is a 2nd series Nagoya Arsenal Type 99 manufactured in the 2nd year of Type 99 production in 1942. It has the airplane sights, and it did have all the early features like the monopod and dust cover which are now missing. This Type 99 rifle is all matching except for the bolt, and it has a slightly defaced mum that looks like something done in the field with a rock or something of that nature. The bolt has a matching patina to the rifle, and we believe it has been with the rifle since before it's capture. As you can see from the pictures the mum on the receiver just has two light strikes thru it, typical of something a Japanese soldier would do with improvised tools prior to a banzai charge where death was certain or prior to imminent capture. Everything works like it should, and the chrome lined bore is perfect and bright. It still has the cleaning rod and the release button works properly. The Type 30 bayonet that came home with it is also very nice and is for sale separately. It has a bright blade with a fuller and a hooked quillion crossguard. It has wrap-around wooden grip panels fastened with rivets that are nice and tight. It is maker marked with an unknown maker under supervision of Kokura Arsenal. It has a nice scabbard complete with the original leather frog. The leather is still nice and flexible and the stitching is all intact with tight rivets. The bayonet can be bought for an additional $195.00, and it would be nice to continue to keep them together.
