ITALIAN Antique VETTERLI-VITALI 1870/87/15 Rifle
Description: ITALIAN Antique VETTERLI-VITALI 1870/87/15 Rifle Made in 1890 & Served as Late as WWII! Here we present an antique Italian Vetterli-Vitali Model 1870/87/15 Infantry Rifle, made in 1890. Like several other European countries in the late 19th Century, Italy hardly seemed able to keep up with the latest and greatest firearms technology in the fierce arms race led by France and Germany. This rifle itself underwent 3 significant changes—hence the three different Model dates—in its very long service life. It was made as a single shot bolt action rifle to begin with, was made into a repeater with the installation of the Vitali magazine, finally being brought into the smokeless powder era with the rechambering into the 6.5 Carcano. At various stages they were put into storage, then brought out again to fight. These rifles would have seen use by Italian troops in WWI, then in the hands of Italian colonial native troops in WWII. The barrel is marked “1890”, the year of production, “TORRE/ANNUNZIATA”, the place of manufacture, along with proof and acceptance markings. Inspector cartouches remain on the left side of the stock. A large round acceptance mark is located on the left side of the butt stock. The overall condition is good. This rifle may have seen up to 50 years of use in various hands and through various wars, including the World Wars! It has likely seen many trips back to the armory. The blue finish is about 60% with a gray brown patina filling in. The markings are legible. The stock shows lots of hard use. The bore is clean with strong rifling. The action is strong. Here is a 19th Century antique rifle that has been there and done that! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-1/2 inches. Caliber: 6.5x52mm Carcano Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $650 #5081 SOLD Antique: Yes |
