Pre-War 1938 Winchester Model 61 .22 Rimfire Rifle 100% Original SOLD
Description:
This beautiful pre-WW2 Winchester Model 61 pump action .22 rifle is 100% original and in very good condition. This Model 61 was made in 1938 and has lived an easy life since new. While the factory original blue finish on the receiver is nearly perfect, the original blue finish on the barrel and some of the moving parts show some light wear and evidence of very light surface rust, keeping it from rating in the top 5%. Regardless, this is a very attractive Winchester Model 61 and mechanically this pump action rifle is perfect. The action locks up super tight and the internals show no signs of wear whatsoever. The bore is minty and bright. There are no signs of pitting, erosion, or flaws of any kind and the rifling still has sharp lands and grooves. This take-down model goes together tight with no slop between the upper and lower half. The factory original American Walnut stock set is also in excellent original condition. It has the early small grooved forearm found on the early pre-war models. Both the forearm and buttstock are free from cracks and chips, and show only some very light handling and storage marks. The original factory varnish on the stock set rates 95%. The checkered and blued metal buttplate is in great shape, it fits perfectly and is still nice and tight to the butt. All of the screws in this gun including the 2 in the buttplate look unmolested. The take-down screw shows some light wear and evidence of being turned but nothing that detracts from this beautiful rifle's overall appearance. This is just a 100% original and honest Winchester 61 that has spent the last 30 years of it's life in a closet, and would be an excellent addition to any Winchester collection. It has enough condition to be considered an excellent investment, but not so much that it couldn't be taken to the range and enjoyed with care.
