BAVARIAN Antique Double Hunting Rifle by “BÖHM”
Description:
BAVARIAN Antique Double Hunting Rifle by “BÖHM”
Silver Inlaid German Double from Aschaffenburg
Here we present an antique Percussion Double Rifle, made circa 1840 by Böhm of Aschaffenburg, which is located in Bavaria. This was made to be a fine hunting rifle, and its style is thoroughly German. The double barrels have a solid rib on top, on which is engraved and inlaid, “J. BÖHM/in/Aschaffenburg”, surrounded by delicate vine. The right bore has more of a “micro” style of rifling, while the left is more broad. The stock has a very nice cheek rest included for a right-handed shooter, as well as a sliding wooden patchbox. The front sight is a single blade, and the rear sight is a single, wide V notch. Each barrel has its own trigger and hammer. Sling swivels are included on the middle ramrod holder and the trigger guard. The trigger guard appears to be that from an old German military rifle-musket, bearing a crowned proof mark. The result would have been a relatively light and handy big-bore hunting rifle, ready for big game and a follow up shot.
The overall condition is very good. The metal parts have a deep, dark patina. The markings are very clear and legible. The silver is nearly 100%. The stock is in good condition. The bores are clearly rifled and in good condition. Both actions are strong. Here is a beauty of a mid-19th Century German double gun.
