1st Year Production 1960 Sako L579 Forester Varmint .243 cal. w/ Leupold VX-III 6.5 to 20 Scope EXCELLENT!!!
Description: This 1st year production (1960) rifle is truly spectacular! We have not had a vintage Sako exactly like this before. This is a Sako Model L579 Forester with a factory "Varmint" heavy profile barrel and a checkered Monte Carlo stock with a wide forearm. The 100% original factory finish is in excellent condition and rates a solid 97 to 98%. It shows only some extremely small handling marks, and the front of the sight hood and the edge of the muzzle shows some very minor high edge wear. The 23.5 inch varmint profile heavy barrel came with rifle sights, of which the front ramped blade with a sight hood remains. The rear sight is no longer present and there are plug screws in place. The bore is minty and bright in this rifle with sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no signs of pitting or erosion. The action on this rifle is perfect. It locks up tight and the bolt works in and out of battery very smoothly. The bolt itself shows onlys some very minor wear in the finish where it makes contact with the receiver. As you can see in the pictures, the floorplate and trigger guard are nearly perfect with no wear to the factory blue finish. The trigger is superb in this rifle. It breaks cleanly with a light pull and there is no creep or grittiness. The stock on this rifle is also excellent. It is free from cracks or repairs and still looks very attractive. It has only some very light handling marks on it and the checkering in the pistol grip and the forearm is still nice and clean. It came from the Sako factory with sling swivels and a checkered black plastic pistol grip cap with a white spacer, and a black plastic butt plate with the Sako logo on it also behind a white spacer. It pulls 14 inches to the end of the butt plate. This rifle comes with a Leupold VX-III 6.5 to 20 power scope mounted up on factory Sako rings. It is a heck of a scope and has an adjustable objective lens with a detachable sunshade. All of the adjustments for windage and elevation work perfectly and the optics are crystal clear. It has a standard duplex crosshair. This is one superb package. A first year production Sako L579 in a scarce variation that would be an excellent investment and a great shooter as well!
