#4839 Sharps 1859/63 New Model Carbine, post-Civil War 50/70 conversion
Description: #4839 Sharps 1859/63 New Model Carbine, post-Civil War 50/70 conversion with original percussion six-groove 52cal barrel being sleeved with the 50/70 three groove barrel for use in the Indian Campaigns. The bore is about a 3 that should clean to a 5 or better (…possibly even still shootable if you don’t care about hitting anything) …and it has a tight action but is missing the extractor. The buttstock is period replaced using a Sharps military rifle stock and has numerous bumps and bruises over the stock and forestock. It has the original carbine butt plate rather than the larger rifle plate and this is a really BAD fit, to say the least! Basically, it has usable wood with no inspectors acceptance cartouche remaining on the center of the stock left side. The metal has light to medium pitting on much of the surface area, the saddle ring and bar have been removed (probably done when the stock was replaced), and the markings are all barely visible on the frame and about gone on the barrel. The serial number on the tang is in the 53XXX range. The rear sight is missing the ladder portion and the base is only partially intact. About Fair to Good and shows years of frontier use with considerable abuse, and while heavily worn and being much like a burned out ugly old “frontier cat-house soiled dove”, it kind of does have its own “charisma!” $1095 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
