Spencer Saddle Ring Carbine Cal. .56-50, Ser. 452XX.
Description: Inv. 5901 Spencer Saddle Ring Carbine Cal. .56-50, Ser. 452XX. A really super example of the first U.S. Military repeating rifle. This particular rifle was built in 1865 as indicated by the Union Army inspector's stamp E.A.W. (E.A. Williams). The condition is really fine. The frame, lever and action have retained about 50% of the original case colors. The barrel has as a dark blue finish which appears to be the factory finish. I would rate it at about 85-90%. The barrel band and trap door but plate have turned a soft gray. Other than some scattered pinpricks and some silvering of the saddle ring bar, the gun has no rust or pits. Just some scattered pinpricks. It has aged beautifully. The rear ladder sight is in super condition and is fully functional. The front sight has not been nicked or chipped. The forearm appears to have seen a little more use than the rest of the gun as it has some surface staining and several scattered small surface nicks. The buttstock is remarkably clean. No nicks or dings, only a small professionally repaired hole, not easily seen. It retains almost all of the original factory finish. The comb is stamped with the aforementioned inspector's stamp E.A.W. The barrel is mirror bright and razor ship with the just the slightest hint of graying. A really outstanding example of a true Civil War Veteran. Could be that beautiful centerpiece for your collection or a blast to shoot......**REDUCED $2895.
