CIVIL WAR Antique SPRINGFIELD US M1863 Musket
Description: CIVIL WAR Antique SPRINGFIELD US M1863 Musket Dated “1863” Cut Down to Hunt Here we present an antique U.S. Model 1863 Musket, made by Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1863. The M1863 is representative of the “everyman’s” rifle during the American Civil War. About 1.5 million rifle-muskets were made in the U.S., over 800,000 of which were made by the Springfield Armory. This was the last hurrah of the rifle-musket as arms development and tactics rapidly advanced during the short period of the American Civil War. Nevertheless, the 1863 represented new technology as it was made for use with the Minié ball, a hollow based, conical projectile that was small enough to quickly push down the muzzle of a rifled barrel and expanded to create a good gas seal unlike solid, round ball. This specimen was sold on the surplus market after the Civil War and subsequently shortened to a handier length for hunting. The bore was made smooth and was almost certainly used as a shotgun. The original markings on the lock as well as the government inspector marks remain clear on the stock. The overall condition is very good. The metal finish has a light patina. The markings are clear and legible. The original walnut stock shows wear that is fitting for the time period it was manufactured. The bore is in good condition with a good layer of dust. The action on this rifle is strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 30-7/8 inches. Caliber: .65 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
