Antique CIVIL WAR US Springfield 1863 Rifle-Musket
Description: Antique CIVIL WAR US Springfield 1863 Rifle-Musket Primary Infantry Weapon of the American Civil War Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Type II Rifle-Musket, with original bayonet, made in 1864 at Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. The M1863 is representative of the “everyman’s” rifle during the American Civil War. About 1.5 million rifle-muskets were made in the U.S., over 800,000 of which were made by the Springfield Armory. This was the last hurrah of the rifle-musket as arms development and tactics rapidly advanced during the short period of the American Civil War. Nevertheless, the 1863 represented new technology as it was made for use with the Minié ball, a hollow based, conical projectile that was small enough to quickly push down the muzzle of a rifled barrel, and expanded to create a good gas seal unlike solid round ball. The lock is marked “1864” and “U.S. Springfield” with a federal eagle on the lock plate and the nipple bolster. The breech of the barrel is also marked “1864”. The butt plate is marked “U.S.” and the breech of the barrel is proof marked “V/P/Eagle head”. The stock still retains its two original government inspector cartouches. “ESA” is for E.S. Allin in the oval cartouche and the rectangular appears to be the initials of H.S. Hill. Overall condition is fine. The rifle was left in the white by the arsenal. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is very good, solid, and still showing the inspector cartouches. Ramrod and bayonet are original. Bore is clean and shiny. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 40 inches in length. Caliber: .58 percussion Bore is in fine condition. The firing mechanism is excellent. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a very nice Civil War rifle-musket, used by the Everyman on the front lines. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #10374 SOLD Antique: Yes |
