Description:
SPRINGFIELD U.S. KRAG MODEL 1894 .22 LONG GALLERY PRACTICE RIFLE WITH STEVENS POPE BARREL. Serial number "47XX" on an 1894 receiver. 30" barrel with Pope eccentric rifling starting at 12 oclock to accommodate original krag extractor. Mint rifling is crisp and bright and meant to be a tack driver considering Pope's reputation. Made for indoor winter training(National Guard Armories) with the ability to replace .30-40 military barrels. Pope made these barrels at Stevens and so serial numbered them individually which this one has-"1013" under barrel. Shortened forend. U.S. leather sling. Crisp stock cartouche dated "1900". Circle/P behind triggerguard. Pope also incorporated the original sights to be aligned with .22 barrel. This one has a rear peep tapped into bolt. Missing screw holding trapdoor spring possibly to access spent brass in magazine well. Stevens-Pope two line address forward of rear band. Low serial number receiver. Meant for the .22Long cartridge I believe. Very rare!
