U.S. Model 1863 Springfield Type II Rifle Musket dated 1864 Very Nice Example
Description: Another fine “ESTATE” firearm offered by Dust 2 Dollars. We offer you a U.S. Model 1863 Springfield Type II Rifle Musket dated 1864. This was the last model of US military Percussion Musket produced by the National Armory in Springfield, Mass during the Civil War. They are known as the Model 1863 Type II and were manufactured from 1864-65 with a total production just over 250,000 units. This one was built in 1864 as dated and is a very fine example in .58 caliber with 40" barrel. Being a true Type II version it has 3 barrel bands secured by band springs. Overall this rifle is in very fine condition with good edges and markings. The metal has an old patina with build up in the cracks and crevasses. It has not been cleaned for a very long time if at all. The metal overall is quite fine with only minor surface blemishing. The lock is clearly marked U.S. SPRINGFIELD with the Eagle motif with the bolter Eagle marking still very clear and clean. The back of the lock is dated "1864" behind the hammer with the date on top of the barrel no longer being visible. The side of the barrel bears the "V"/"P" and the Springfield Eagle symbol. The buttplate is also clearly marked "US" on the top toe. The ramrod has the tulip shaped head with straight shaft. The wood is in VG plus condition and the stock cartouches are a bit faint but still visible with the”JG” and "ESA" cartouches still legible. No cracks, chips, or repairs to the wood. Good tight wood to metal fit overall. Good mechanics and a good bore with the original rifling intact. $1,895 plus $75 shipping to you where allowed. 3% convenience fee added to the total for CC payments. All firearms come with a 3-day inspection from D2D’s. Dust 2 Dollars offers layaway, email us for details. SOLD Antique: Yes |
