U.S. MODEL 1884 SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR CARBINE
Description: U.S. Model 1884 Springfield .45-70 "Trapdoor" carbine. A standard Springfield .45-70 caliber Model 1884 trapdoor carbine manufactured in 1889. This gun has all of its original Springfield arsenal manufactured parts including the stock drilled for the 3-piece cleaning rod which is not included. The carbine has been beautifully and professionally refinished. Barrel and rear sight are rust blued, breechblock and tang beautifully case hardened, remaining mounts nitre blued in the same manner as the original guns were finished. All markings very crisp, rifled bore is very fine and clean and bright. Action very tight, lock and extractor work perfectly. "C" marked carbine rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation works perfectly. Stock has good lines, no damage and oil finished red-brown walnut. The metal parts fit the stock properly and wood does not appear to have been sanded, just cleaned and re-oiled. Excellent SWP 1889 dated cartouche on left wrist of stock. This gun looks like an unissued example and is priced much less than what a comparable example in original finish would cost. SOLD Antique: Yes |
