CIVIL WAR Trainer US Springfield 1863 Rifle-Musket
Description: CIVIL WAR Trainer US Springfield 1863 Rifle-Musket Primary Infantry Weapon of the American Civil War Here we present an antique U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Type II Rifle-Musket Trainer, the lock of which was made in 1864 at Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts. The M1863 is representative of the “everyman’s” rifle during the American Civil War. About 1.5 million rifle-muskets were made in the U.S., over 800,000 of which were made by the Springfield Armory. This was the last hurrah of the rifle-musket as arms development and tactics rapidly advanced during the short period of the American Civil War. Nevertheless, the 1863 represented new technology as it was made for use with the Minié ball, a hollow based, conical projectile that was small enough to quickly push down the muzzle of a rifled barrel, and expanded to create a good gas seal unlike solid round ball. This specimen utilizes an 1864 dated lock, and it is conceivable that it may have been used to train troops or perhaps they were even made for children to play or drill with. The lock is marked “1864” and “U.S. Springfield” with a federal eagle. There is an 8 inch section of hollow metal tube, while the rest of the barrel is made of wood. Overall condition is good. The stock is solid wood. Despite lack of barrel bands, the barrel is secure with a screw about 6 inches from the muzzle. Lock is functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 29 inches in length. Caliber: Not meant to fire The firing mechanism is functional. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is an interesting piece that would be an interesting collectible or a historically themed gift for a child. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $550 #10376 SOLD Antique: Yes |
