This is a very nice example of the Civil War Carbine converted to metallic cartridge. This original 1863 Model is now chambered for the 50/70 Springfield cartridge. This New Model 1865 was the most used Cavalry Carbine during the Indian War period from 1865 to 1875, until it was replaced by the 45/70 Springfield Carbine. This gun retains approximately 95% of its original 1865 finish, with bright case colors and excellent blue. The six groove barrel looks new and may be unfired. The stock has only minor storage marks and the inspector's cartouches are clear and crisp. This gun is 100% original and untouched.
