Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle
Description:
U.S/Model/1884 on breechblock. Buffington windgage sight with R stamped on top of barrel just forward of breechblock. 32 5/8" bbl. that is blue/brown patina withVP/Eagle/P proof marks forward of breech block. Blade front sight. Ramrod with button tip and cleaning patch slot. 2 barrel bands stamped with U. Sling swivel forward of 2 piece triggerguard that is a gray/brown patina. Grooved/corrugated trigger. Butt plate stamped U.S. on top. Lock plate mostly blue with sharp eagle and Springfield forward of hammer. Hammer is either a dark case or blue. Walnut stock that has light storage dings and small dent on right side of butt that was repaired a long time ago. SN 134468. According to US springfield Info Center Faqs, no. 3, 2nd para. "a number of arms, too many to be chance, in the 97000-145000 range, have been found frequently in fine condition, clearly this represents a sweeping out the shop". I believe this is one of them. The firing pin tip was broken and I replaced it with and aluminum bronze pin. I still have the original and the firing pin spring, but have left the pin "free floating" as was normal. Bore is bright and this should be an excellent shooter if desired. SOLD
