SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. Round barrel in 38-40 caliber with tang sight.. Here is a pretty nice 1873 in the excellent shooting 38-40 caliber. S/N 268077 and made in 1888.. It has the standard 24" round barrel. The bore is excellent.. Bright and shiny with very strong rifling. Just shows some very mild frosting down in the groves. Getting hard to find these with nice bores any more. NO rings or bulges. If you are a shooter you will love this one. It is very accurate. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. The lever and carrier springs are strong. Both hammer notches are perfect. It has the original front and rear sights. It also has a Lyman tang sight as you can see in the photos. The sight might not be as old as the gun but it is not a new one. The metal is a medium brown patina that might have been touched up with some kind of browning solution and the side plates are a little darker so I am sure they have had some kind of coloring added at one time. This can be easily removed if so desired but I will not mess with it. All the markings are good. The screw heads are sharp and not all burred up. There is no pitting on the gun any where. The original dust cover is tight and still retracts with the lever throw. The dust cover has been "peened " on top as you can see in the photo. Probably to tighten it up as these covers wear out and get so loose they bind up the action so that is why you see so many with the covers missing. The old timers just removed them because they are pretty much useless. The earlier Henery's and the 66 Winchester did not even have them. This one is still intact and works perfectly. The wood is very nice on this gun. The forearm fits tight and proud to the metal. Has a few dings and dents and also has a surface grain crack running along the bottom but it is still tight and I do not think it is all the way through. It is very hard to see anyway and does not detract at all from the looks ogfthe gun. The butt stock is very nice as well. It fits tight and full and shows but lust a couple very small dings and a couple very small chips along the bottom tang that do not detract from the looks of this ole 73 at all. Nothing special here but a decent ole 73 with an excellent bore in the best shooting caliber of all of them. If you are looking for a shooter then look no further. This one is a tack driver and is still very collectible also... Getting hard to find these that are all original with excellent bores for less than $2000 any more and this one functions perfectly and does not need $200 to $300 worth of parts and labor. I test fire all of my antique rifles but I am not liable for some one who does not know how to load and shoot these antique guns. I have this one priced fairly with the bore condition. If it had an average bore then it would be priced a couple hundred dollars less but the bore makes this a step up from the others. It is worth the extra if you are a shooter for sure. I have a few more with just average bores that will be priced a little cheaper that I do not have listed yet. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Please check back often as I will be listing many more antique guns soon.
