ANTIQUE WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 SRC - CAL. .44 W.C.F.
Description:
"SALE PENDING" - Antique Winchester Model 1892 SRC - Cal. .44 WCF - 20" Bbl. - SN 87XXX(1898) - British Proofs - Bore is about VG+ - bright with sharp rifling but shows mild roughness - action is perfect - smooth with tight lock-up. Metal is VG overall showing surface roughness on receiver and barrel band plus "salt and pepper" rust spotting on barrel and magazine tube - steel buttplate has some fairly heavy rust that will clean up some - excellent screws and original sights - sharp markings. The British "V with crown" proof marks appear the barrel and the bolt - there is an "F" stamp on the top of the receiver and the number "45" appears on the upper part of the the magazine, barrel band, upper tang, lever, and on the underside of the rear sight elevator. The buttstock shows a "BS" stamp and "No. 145" - also very light small and hard to see numbers on the right rear of the buttstock. The wood is undamaged and the butt has a good fit to the frame - forend wood is not a perfect fit - wood has had oil or varnish rubbed over original finish but has not been sanded or refinished. An honest old 1892 SRC that has seen use, but received decent care to the bore and action - suspect exposure to dampness as metal is a little rough and little finish remains, having drifted to a light to medium gray patina indicating that the exterior may not have had the best of care though the metal can be cleaned up some with a little effort and patience. British proofs suggest that this SRC may have seen service in WWI or WWII. This piece will make a super shooter or "Cowboy Action" gun and a nice starting collectible. Verification from Cody included.
