WINCHESTER 1873 FIRST MODEL FACTORY ENGRAVED RIFLE
Description:
Special order 30" full oct bbl, full length mag tube, orig sights, 3X fancy checkered wood, rifle style buttplate and set trigger. This gun is in the 4400 serial range and it is known that Gustave Young engraved just a 1/2 dozen of the early Model 1873's and this is one of them. Very sparsely done with just 3 areas of scroll engraving on each side and some around the frame and dust cover. Quite delicately done. Bbl and mag is a plum/blue/brown color. Nice markings. Very nice shootable bore that could use a good cleaning. Case hardened frame has turned mostly dark with some silver color. Orig engraved thumbprint dust cover. Nice action. Wood has the 1st model style checkering and has an old gunsmith repair at the wrist area with some inlaid brass. Sound and solid. A small chip missing on the forearm by the receiver. Nice clean gun. I only know of a few of these done by Gustave Young. Comes complete with Factory Letter.
