Winchester Model 1876, 2nd Model with Case Hardened Frame, Lever, Hammer and Buttplate.
Description:
Very Lovely Winchester Model 1876, 2nd Model 45/75 Caliber Serial # 8736. Case Hardened Frame, Lever, Hammer and Buttplate. Half Octogon 28 inch Barrel with Sporting Rear Sight. Factory Swivel Studs and Original Rear Sight. Beeches Front Sight. Not sure about the notched comb on the Butt-stock. It is definately professionally done and finished. what a Great Specimen!! Now, as Paul Harvey used to say, "Here is the Rest of the Story". My very good customer purchased this gun many years ago as you see it. He paid a very hefty price for it even back then. He asked me to sell it for him. I lettered the gun and it lettered as you see it but cannot recall whether the rear tang sight was mentioned in the letter. When I received the gun, I was very impressed with it and figured it would bring in excess of 20K to the right buyer and maybe even $25,000. First thing I did was look at the bore. Oh, oh. The bore had been relined. Looking at the Case Colors, they sure looked original. I checked with Winchester to see if the gun had been returned for refinish and they could not tell me. Hard to get any information out of them these days. I checked with some of the other good Case Color people and found nothing. I believe the Case Colors have been redone. The Barrel has not been touched nor the Wood. I am selling this notifying the potential buyers about the relined barrel and my thoughts on the case colors. It is a Beautiful Specimen in a Very Rare Configuration, particularly in a 2nd model. If I were still collecting instead of reducing my collection, I would keep the gun. No papers required for purchase, the gun was produced in 1878. Thanks for Looking.
