Winchester Model 1892 Takedown in 44WCF Caliber
-
Very Nice
Description:
Winchester model 1892 Takedown in 44WCF Caliber. Serial # 50xxx ( 1894 Vintage - Antique ). Full Magazine with 24" Round Barrel. Metal retains 98% Original Blue Finish with the Polish Line on both sides of the receiver that we see on a many of 92's with a high percentage of blue. An abundance of Case Colors on the Lever and Hammer ( See Photos ). Wood retains 90+% Original Finish on Buttstock with good figure. Forend retains same % of Original Finish and is darker than buttstock with less figure. Cody Records state that this gun originally was built with a 38/40 Round Barrel. The barrel and receiver have Winchester Proof Marks. The Cody records do state the gun was returned for repair on November 25, 1908. The rear barrel sight is an optional 2 leaf. Don't know what R&R work was done on this gun when it went back. Could have added a second barrel or replaced a damaged one. Also, the Lyman 21 Receiver sight could have been added. Not sure whether the work order will denote any of the above. Do know the gun went back, the caliber was changed and the receiver sight may have been added. Standard configuration otherwise, including Crescent Buttplate. Mint Bore. The only blue wear is the small discoloration pictured on the top of the receiver ring. This gun has seen very little use. A Truly Great 1892 Antique in the Right Caliber. Thanks for looking.
