Winchester Model 1894 Semi-Deluxe Pistol Grip Rifle --Antique--
Description:
This is a nice Winchester Model 1894 Semi-Deluxe Rifle in Caliber .30 WCF that came from out West. It shows honest use with lots of original blue with the high spots worn silver. Coming from a dry climate, it shows very little in the way of patina and the walnut stocks showing very nice open grain. Best of all, it has no modifications which means no extra holes from scope mounts or sling swivels. It letters with the Cody Museum as shipped with a 26" Octagon Barrel and Factory Special Order Pistol Grip Stock, Shotgun Butt with a Rubber Buttplate (Hard Rubber). Antique Serial Number is in the 52,000 range. Overall Condition Grades to NRA Antique Fine+ with 90% Orginal Blue on the barrel and tube with edges of the octagon worn bright. The receiver has 50% thinning original Blue on the left side of the frame while the right side is a bit more worn with 25% original blue remaining. Loading port retains bright fire blue in protected areas. Bolt has 85% original blue. Case colors on lever have faded to silver while there are some decent case colors remaining on the hammer. Hammer has the correct decorative border. Barrel has the proper early 2 line Winchester address on the upper flat of the octagon. Upper tang has the early style 3 line Model 1894/Winchester/PAT AUG. 21, 1894. Left side of barrel marked NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER. Original sights include the standard Express 2 Leaf Rear Sight with both platinum lined leaves intact. These are often chipped or missing. Standard front sight with German silver blade. The original walnut stock is numbered to the lower tang and was well selected as it shows nice straight grain with a bit tiger and ripple in the grain at the pistol grip. Bottom of the pistol grip has the hard rubber grip cap with engraved screw. Stock and forend are solid with no cracks or major blemishes. 20% Original Varnish remaining. Never sanded or refinished with nice wood to metal fit. Bore is Very Good with strong rifling and has no pits, rings, or bulges. These early special order Winchester 1894's are becoming more and more difficult to find in fine or better condition with antique serial numbers.
