Winchester Model 1890 .22 WRF, Third Model Takedown
Description:
Scarce Winchester Model 1890 Takedown in rare .22 WRF caliber. I hunted squirrels with this gun as a kid 60 years ago! Third Model of Winchester's most popular pump rifle ever. Serial No. 7011988 of 849,000 made. Early barrel markings listed the gun as "Model 1890." At approximately serial # range 640000, the marking became "MOD. 90--22 WRF. That is the mark on this rifle.
Octagon barrel, tubular magazine, oil stained walnut stock, straight buttstock, blued.
This rifle was the creation of John M. & Matthew Browning and was the FIRST of the slide action Winchesters. It proved a popular shooting gallery rifle in the .22 short caliber for that reason a huge number were chambered in .22 short. In the market it competed with the Colt Lightening Slide Action .22.
This rifle is excellent overall as the pictures show. Uncracked wood with only a few mars from handling. Some blueing on the rear of the barrel and a fine brown patina over the balance. Scuffs on the edges of the octogons. Mechanically perfect. Action is crisp and tight. Dead on aim when I shot squirrels with it 60 years ago. At $2,100.00 it compares favorably with conpetitors pictures on this site.
Very crisp markings. And a beautiful firearm.
