Pre 64 Winchester 70 Transition model 1946 30-06
Description:
Very clean rifle in the hard to find transition configuration which was about a 3 year period bridging the gap between pre and post WWII rifles. (1946-48) This is a 30-06 caliber S/N 63*** with matching bolt Mfg. 1946. It has a 24" barrel with excellent bore. 97% Blue. Wood is about as nice overall, but shows a couple minor discrepancies to be pointed out: There are a few isolated marks or tracks left over from a formerly mounted Lyman 48 receiver sight which created an impression in wood due to the sight's sharp edged base, as well as a shallow dibit from it's elevation screw. It is also noted that the rear tang metal is slightly proud of the wood suggesting a possible touch up in that area although I see no evidence of finish inconsistency. Rifle has the pre war style clover leaf tang, correct factory drilled receiver front and back, solid bolt knob, straight comb, and all correct components, with exception of front sight hood which is no longer present.
This is an especially nice and scarce configured rifle with perfect mechanical function that could serve as a very collectible shooter which will retain it's value if cared for.
