Antique Winchester Second Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine
Description: Antique Winchester Second Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine
Here is a Winchester Second Model 1866 Model lever action saddle ring carbine. This rifle was manufactured prior to 1898, making it a true antique. Norm Flayderman famously said that the 1866 was “Popularly known on the frontier as the ‘Yellow Boy’, the Indian also called it ‘many shots’ along with ‘heap firing’ guns. The ’66 is the repeating rifle most deserving of the name ‘The Gun That Won The West’.”
This SRC (saddle ring carbine) exudes the American West and is the archetypal cowboy gun. If guns could tell tales, this little carbine would tell us how the West was won, and about the blood, sweat and tears it took to win.
This piece conceals its serial number on the inside of the tang. The barrel address reads “Winchester’s—Repeating—Arms New Haven, CT/King’s—Improvement—Patented—March 22, 1855, October 16, 1860”.
Other examples of 1866s online are listed for several tens of thousands!
Barrel is round and 20 inches in length.
Caliber: .44 rimfire
Bore is rifled and in good condition. You can still see the lands and grooves, though of course the bore is a bit dirty. The firearm is in good working order.
Overall condition as seen in photos.
