FACTORY ENGRAVED WINCHESTER 66 SPORTING RIFLE
Description:
This gun could very well be the first gun that John Uhlrich engraved. Serial number is 36480 and on page 132 of the Winchester Engraving book by R.L. Wilson is a picture of on early 66 that he states is the earliest one known. This one is 2 digits earlier than that one. The engraving is similiar but this one is more eleaborate. Engraved "J U" on the upper tang. A fine gun with 24" full oct bbl and full length mag tube. Orig sights. Bright shiny bore. Fancy wood has a small barely noticeable repair at the toe. Stamped on the side of the buttstock is "S G 61" and I am not sure what that stands for. Stock has a few mars and dings and a small age crack about in the middle going forward. Overall gun is in excellent condition with 35-40% blue that is toning somewhat. Sharp corners and good markings. The receiver has good traces of orig silver with the balance having turned a mellow patina. Intricate engraving with a dog's head on one side of the frame. Gun has crisp sharp mechanics and functions fine.
