Antique 1873 SRC. 38-40. Excellent Mechanics. Very Good Bore.
Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 SRC 38-40. Excellnt mechanics. Very good bore. Here is a bit better than average 1873 SRC and has that right out of the attic look to it... It is in the excellent shooting and harder to find 38-40 caliber. Has the standard 20" barrel. S/N is 386942 and made in 1891. The bore is very good for a SRC. Shows strong rifling all the way through. Just has some light roughness from black powder shooting. NO big pits or craters. NO rings or bulges. It still shoots straight and is still accurate. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. NO backed out primers or bulged cases. Head space is perfect. Strong carrier and lever springs. Positive and correct safety and full cock notches also. Still has the original dust cover that is amazingly still tight and retracts correctly with the lever throw.. The metal over all is very nice and smooth with NO pitting any where. It is a medium to dark brown patina and has never been cleaned on or messed with. Just the way you love to find them. The Hammer face still shows vivid case colors!!! All the markings are very good as you can see. The barrel address is still complete and very readable. A lot of these SRC have very weak or missing barrel addresses from wear. The caliber marking on the barrel has been bumped long ago right on the number 3 in the 38WCF marking. All other markings are sharp. Even the brass carrier caliber markings are all there. The front sight is original and has been modified a bit by having been filed off flat and a small blade inserted. Very good job. {see photo} The rear sight is original and has had the "V" notch opened up a bit as you can see in the photo of the barrel caliber marking to the left of the photo. These modifications have been made for a much better and very precise sight picture. If you are familiar with the sights on these SRC, they are to say the least not very precise and kinda have a hit and miss profile. These sights look more like a rifle sights when looking down them and I like them better than the original profile sight picture. Though they have been modified and I have this one priced reflecting this. The rear sight is also missing the rather useless sliding adjuster when you flip the sight bar up. This does not detract from this gun. I do have an original 1873 SRC rear sight that is complete and not modified if any one is interested. I can swap them out for $175 if so desired. I am just listing this gun with the sights that are original to the gun as I found it. The wood is very nice, The forearm fits tight and still prowd to the receiver on the sides. NO spits or cracks and shows just light honest dings and scratches. Nothing bad or detracting at all. The butt stock also fits tight and prowd to the metal as you can see. It even fits prowd to the butt plate. There is a one small grain crack about 1" long on the right side behind the receiver. It is still tight and solid and not going anywhere. The wood on the gun has never been sanded or cleaned on. It has way above average origial wood for a SRC and still fits full. As you know, most of these SRC show tremedous amounts of wear and tear. Very poor bores and weak or missing markings. They were just used to death. Here is a very nice example that shows some honest use as to be expected but no abuse. I know the sight mods have been done and this was done for a reason as can be clearly seen when you look down the sights. This ole 73 SRC is still shoot' in and has a lot of life left in 'er. I will not be responsible for anyone not having the knowledge of loading and shooting any antique firearms. Please know what you are doing if you are going to shoot any antique firearm .. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Don't miss this great ole 73 SRC !!!
