Winchester 1873 First Model Rifle
Description:
An First Model 1873 rifle mfg in 1875, this unique rifle is a 44 WCF. It has a 30" octagon barrel and a set trigger. The gun is in outstanding condition with all original parts and full mechanicl function. There is some very light pitting on the left side plate, other wise the metal is smooth and without damage or dents. The full length magazine is very clean with a very light scuff mark on the left side of the muzzle end. All exposed screw heads are smooth with very minor turn marks.
All lettering and numbering is sharp with no sign of ever being buffed.
The original wood stock and forend show only minor handling marks and are free of chips or splits. The stock does have a knot that has flaked away over the years leaving a unique hole in the left side of the stock. The cleaning rod is missing, but the sliding cover in the curved butt plate is free and slides open easily.
The only negitive on this rifle is that some time in the past a previous owner has apparently applied a light coat of cold blue to the metal surfaces. While this does not fully mask the original finish, it leaves the finish bright and with more shine than would be expected on of gun of this age.
This unusual and beautifully presented rifle will make a fine addition to any Winchester collection.
