Special Order Winchester 1876 Original Cased Colored 3rd Model Rifle 45-60 Restored
Description:
This Is an interesting gun with lots of possibilities. Special ordered as a standard 28" octagon full magazine rifle, it was received in the warehouse and shipped the same day of March 1884 per the Cody letter. Case color was optional in the third model 76's with less than 1500 made in 45-60 with that feature. Someone made a good attempt at a restoration of this gun but over looked a few item. It appears unfired since restoration. It was rebarreled with either an 1886 or 1885 barrel that was fresh bored to 45-60 so the bore is perfect The inscription lacks the Kings patten and the front dovetail is not perfect.. The butt plate is not correct as it lacks the trap door and is blued as opposed to case. The backing lacquer has a slightly rough finish which is not uncommon. A few pits were left in in the polishing prior to the butt stock appears original to the gun. The dust cover also appears original. I am pointing out the flaws none of which is serious or affects the functionality. This gun could very easily be brought to original as restored condition or left alone and enjoyed and shot for years to come. It would be hard to find a nicer 76 for this price
