WINCHESTER THICK SIDE HIGH WALL 50 CALIBER
Description:
This is chambered in the big bore cal of 50 Eley. Gun was originally exported to Walter Locke and Co. Calcutta India. These markings are on the bbl along with 7879 and proof marks. This rifle has been used, perhaps in a harrowing hunt for lions or other large and dangerous game. Most of the usage is in the wood. There is a wear pattern on the forearm . Could be from riding on a camel or some sort of saddle. The buttstock also has some wear. There is a chunk out behind the comb. I don't know if it was chipped and someone tried to file it flat or if it was done on purpose. But again, surprisingly, most of the wood is there. Some shrinkage and a little shy at the tangs. Metal is all grey and has been cleaned some time ago. Smooth metal on the frame. Bbl also is nice metal but does exhibit dings and scratches that match the forearm wear. This was a tool and taken care of as far as the bore. Nice rifling. Good overall cond. Some light pitting towards the chamber and some light roughness. A rare gun and there are very few in 50 Eley. Very fairly priced.
