SOLD..Antique 1886 Winchester in the very disireable 45-70 caliber. Cody work sheet is included. This very nice 86 has the standard 26" octagon barrel. S/N 38957 and made in 1890. To start with, the bore is excellent and very near mint. It is bright and shiny all the way through with NO rings or bulges. Absolutely NO pitting or any sort of roughness. Best bore I have seen for a while. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. This rifle shoots like s new gun !!!! The barrel has about 35% to 40% scattered original blue finish remaining. A couple light scratches on the left side of the barrel and mag tube right in front of the forearm cap. {see photo} They are just into the blueing and not into the metal itself. These could be very easily touched up but I am not touching it. The mag tube has about 40% or so blue also. This ole 86 has some very nice finish remaining. The case colors on the receiver have silvered out with maybe just traces in good lighting. ALL the markings are excellent. The bolt still retaining most all the blue with a small area of very light sourface roughness but not pitted bad or deep at all. ALL the screw heads sharp and clean and do not show to have been ever turned or messed with. Has the very sought after ladder type rear sight that is marked 1886. Has the original standard front sight. The wood is excellent also. The forearm fits tight and proud to the metal all around. NO splits. cracks or repairs and shows just a couple very minor and honest dings and scratches. The butt stock fits tight and proud to the metal also with NO splits, cracks or repairs. Has a few honest handling dings and that is it. The varnish that remains could be original but not sure. It has thinned out in the wrist area and looks original but hard to tell. Anyway, the wood on this gun is excellent to say the least. This ole 86 is WAY above the average gray- brown gun that you normaly see and not priced much higher. No it ain't cheap, but find another one in this condition for less and I will buy it !!! Cody work sheet confirms that this gun is absolutely correct and it has not been messed with that I can see in any way. As I say, the bore is about mint so if you are a shooter and a collector, this is the gun you have to get.. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $60 insured shipping in hard case for protection. Ypou will love this one or your money back. Don't miss it !!! It will not last long.
