Winchester 1892 rifle .25-20 collector quality
Description:
Winchester 1892 rifle, .25-20, made in 1908. This 108 year old rifle remains in nearly museum quality condition and I know that it has been in the same family for at least the last 70+ years! I acquired it from a gentleman in his mid 60’s and his grandfather bought it to shoot prairie dogs in the Sandhills of Nebraska in the 1930’s..its history before that is uncertain. Regardless whoever has owned this rifle took very, very good care of it. The 24” octagon barrel has over 95% original blue with just slight edge wear and a few tiny spots of surface rust. The receiver/frame is also 95%+ again with light spots of surface rust. Under the top tang sight there are a couple of spots of rust from moisture "sneaking" underneath the Lyman sight. The lever and butt plate still show original case colors although they are faded and thinning. The butt stock and forearm have all of their original varnish and an assortment of “dings” and dents from use and storage. The bore is bright, the rifling sharp but there is some “frosting” mostly towards the muzzle. All in all this is an excellent, original 1892 well worthy of a prominent spot in a collection.
